1. Support a Child
In order to promote parental responsibility, foster a sense of community, and avoid creating a culture of dependency, the school’s parents contribute to their child’s education according to their means. Most make a small monetary contribution or if they are unable to do this they may volunteer their time. However this does not even begin to cover the costs. A Child Sponsorship Program has been established to help. Through this program, children and sponsors are matched. Sponsors receive an introductory package, which the child’s biography, photo, and artwork. Reports on the child's progress are sent annually to each sponsor. Also included with the progress report is recent artwork and a photo.
Sponsorship is $25 USD or $50 USD per month.
2. Support the purchase of the School Property
To secure its long term future, Tashi Waldorf School will be purchasing its land and buildings over the next 5 years. A Land Sponsorship Program has been established to help. On joining the program each sponsor receives a drawing and letter about the school from the children. Reports on the progress of purchasing the property, along with recent photos of life at Tashi Waldorf School, are sent annually to each sponsor. Sponsorship is $18 USD per month.
Funding applications are also being made to foundations to support the property purchase. Referrals to foundations who would be interested in helping would be greatly appreciated.
3. Support the training of a Teacher
Nima Sherpa, a class teacher is attending a 3 year part time Steiner Primary Teacher Training Program in Bangkok, Thailand. Two weeks of training are given in April and October each year. The program will complete in April 2008. The cost of each seminar is $770 USD including return air ticket, visa, room and board, and seminar fee.
4. Support the addition of Classes 4 and 5
Tashi Waldorf School plans to add classes 4 and 5 in 2008 and 2009. To prepare for this growth, 2 new classrooms need to be built, furnished and equipped at a cost of $16,000 USD.
5. Support the supply of Waldorf Educational Materials and other items
A goal at Tashi Waldorf School is to purchase its supplies in Nepal, thereby supporting the local community as best it can. Waldorf educational materials are not available in Nepal nor does the school have the financial resources to purchase them, hence the following items are always needed at the school.
• Waldorf Art Supplies such as water color paints, coloured chalk for blackboard drawing, wooden coloured pencils, and Beeswax crayons and modeling wax
• Waldorf Educational Resources such as children's stories, verses and poems and resources on early childhood and primary education
• Also currently needed is a new or used laptop or desktop computer for the school office
6. Support the School by purchasing or volunteering to sell Nepali Handicrafts:
As a means to provide self-sustaining funding for the school, a business has been started selling Nepali handicrafts. Currently we are selling hand-made Nepali pashminas and hand-made Nepali jewelery. Please contact us if you are interested in learning more about the products for sale and making a purchase.
If you are interested in volunteering your time to sell these products in your neighbourhood, please let us know and we will provide you with samples, a colour chart and price list.
7. Support the School by Holding a Fundraising Event or Publishing an Article
If a community or school chooses to hold a fundraising event in support of the school or one wishes to publish an article about the school, please contact us so that we can provide you with more information. If you are writing an article about the school please forward it to us for review before publishing so we can verify the accuracy of the facts.
