Tashi Waldorf School Fundraising Bulletin

1st Issue

January 1, 2007

Dear Friends,

This year Children of Nepal and Tashi Waldorf School are introducing a fundraising bulletin to highlight our most crucial fundraising needs. The urgent need we face this year is to raise funds to construct, furnish and equip class 4.

In May 2008, Tashi Waldorf School will enroll its first group of class 4 students. Class 4’s classroom will be located in a temporary space, the library and special needs room, which will be moved to another temporary location. This temporary classroom will be smaller than the other classrooms, holding only 14-16 students, while regular classrooms can accommodate 22 students. We would like to move Class 4 into a new, more spacious classroom, by May 2009 at the latest. As we currently lack a suitable building, this requires that we raise the funds to construct, furnish and equip a new classroom building. We have estimated the cost of constructing a one-story structure that will house Class 4 to be 592,000 Nepali Rupees (NPR), which is currently equivalent to $9,247 USD or 6,238 Euros.

Therefore we have initiated a new fundraising drive: the Class Four Construction Fund. We are seeking volunteers to fundraise in their communities, schools and organizations. If you would like to become a volunteer fundraiser, please contact us and we will provide you with brochures, photo albums, our documentary DVD and other materials. If you wish to donate to this fund, please let us know so we will earmark your donation for this purpose. Donors of $500 USD (343 EUR; 31,875 NPR) or more will receive a thank you card, signed by the Class 4 children and their teacher Nima Sherpa. We will also include with the thank you card a hand knitted gift from one of Class 4’s students. Below are some examples of the children’s knit pieces.

With your help, we can give Class 4 students at Tashi Waldorf School a wonderful full size classroom of their own. If we succeed in raising more than the targeted amount, the extra funds will go towards building class 5, which we hope to complete by May 2009. Then TWS will have a complete primary school!

TWS also has another important fundraising need - our child sponsorship program. As the end of the school year approaches in April, we would like to find sponsors for all students requiring sponsorship. In this way, when a large group of new students enrolls in May, we will be able to start looking for sponsorships for them immediately. The following pages contain short profiles of some Tashi Waldorf School students who currently need partial (one sponsor at $25 USD monthly/$300 annually) or full (two sponsors at $25 monthly or one sponsor at $50/$600 annually) sponsorship.
