Our thoughts go to all our friends, sponsors and donors and everyone at Freunde der Erziehungskunst, RSF-Social Finance, Internationaal Hulpsfond, the Kings School, Waldorf School Association of Ontario, Prometheus Ethical Finance and Zukunftsstiftung Entwicklungshilfe. We thank you all for your help, support and endless dedication and hard work throughout the year to keep our school running. We thank volunteers, Arlene McGibbons and Brenda Demchuk, who raised funds through the sale of pashmina scarves and handicrafts.
We specially thank our child-sponsors who enable many children from underprivileged families to have a chance to study and that too at a loving and caring environment of a Waldorf school in Nepal. Please be informed that even though you may be sponsoring one child, the funds go into a pooled amount that helps all children who are needy, who are enrolled at TWS with or without a sponsor. At TWS, we have a policy to accept all needy children who come to us.
It is now ten months since we have shifted to our new premises and we’re glad to report that we’re settling in well. We have 95 pupils in total. We continue to have Kripa’s Nursery play group of adorable 2.5 to 4 year olds, assisted by Manju. And then there’s Chandra’s and Roshni’s group of Upper and Lower Kindergarten pupils ages 4 – 5. Durga and Kamala’s Kindergarten has 18 children, a combination of Upper and Lower Kindergarten. Ms Nyima teaches Class 1 after completing class 3, assisted by Ms Radha. Ms Lobsang teaches Class 2. Mr Amrit is with Class 3. The Nepali Play house has been re-installed in the new premises, after being dismantled and brought over to the new premises one brick at a time. Tashi Waldorf dogs Tommy and Lucky sadly passed away but we have a new puppy, Keto, who is lively and playful. Five bunny rabbits still stay with us, happily munching on carrots, cabbage and vegetables. Our two cats, Mickey and Minnie unfortunately wandered away and never returned. We welcomed many visitors from far and wide this year. Dorothy Powers, a Eurythmy teacher/visitor, from Glenaeon Steiner School in Sydney, Madeleine from IHF, Holland, Lars from Norway and many others. Here’s a very meaningful and touching letter from a Waldorf Teacher/Visitor, Lars Wegge of Steinerskolen in Hurum, Norway.
“Dear Doma and the teachers at Tashi!
Thank you so much for our meeting in Kathmandu and for your very nice letter to our school. It was widely read by all the teachers and I have read it for the elder pupils, who worked a day each to earn the money. I will later show a slideshow with pictures for the entire school.
It was a strong experience for me to be at /visit your school. My own youth pupils became very serious and listened carefully when I told about your everyday life, struggle and realities in Nepal. But most important, I boasted and tried to explain for them your fantastic rich culture, beautiful country and deeds that we are glad to be inspired from. Especially I will remember your pupils´ ability to listen, wait for their time/turn, and stay behind until their time came. Respectfulness is not an easy thing to maintain here in Norway, and I learned something about this by studying your lovely children. You are in so many ways rich. And we in Norway are in other ways (socially) poor. We all are learning and can become richer.”
In August and September 2010. TWS consulting doctor, Dr. Dipendra Sharma conducted a complete health check-up on all the students of Tashi Waldorf. Dr. Dipendra reported that generally the students were in good health. The doctor observed that quite a few of the pupils’ health improved after enrolling at TWS due to better nutrition and better hygiene practices. A few of the students had chest problems, colds and respiratory illnesses. Dr. Dipendra treated quite a few of the students who had ear infections for which he de-waxed, cleaned up and drained the students’ ears. Dr. Dipendra administered deworming medication to many of the TWS pupils. Besides nutritious snacks and hot lunches, vitamin supplements are given to our pupils regularly.
Dasain and Tihar Festivals:
The students and teachers of Tashi Waldorf School celebrated Dasain and Tihar festivals with much fun and games at our new premises.
This Dasain the students from the grade classes enacted the puppet show, Maisasur, a Dasain story about the wicked demon, Maisasur who is conquered by Goddess Durga. The actors had a great time and were very excited with their roles and their dramatic costumes.
Our ex-students like to visit and keep in touch with TWS which our faculty appreciates very much as we know how our graduates are progressing in their new schools.

We send our gratitude to all our very generous friends who have given us their time, money and expertise. The TWS faculty and staff would like to thank the many kind visitors who have donated much Steiner educational materials to TWS, such as colored felt, beeswax, and block crayons, which are not available in Nepal.
With sincere thanks and best wishes for the rest of 2011!
