The Founders
Meyrav
Meyrav Mor first established a kindergarten at a children’s home in Kathmandu in 1996. During this time she focused on integrating the Waldorf methodology with the cultures and traditions of Nepal to create an early childhood curriculum which is both child centered and culturally relevant. In January 2000 the orphanage contract was completed and Meyrav established Tashi Waldorf School. Meyrav developed the culturally sensitive curriculum for
the nursery, kindergarten and classes 1 through 3 at Tashi Waldorf
School. She continues to work on curriculum development for the
school.

TashiTashi Dhondup began as the school’s local founding partner in 1999. He provided the wonderful site for the school. His help, advice and experience were invaluable in getting the school established. Without his friendship, support, and guidance, the school would not be possible.


The Early Childhood Faculty
Chandra
Chandra Tamang has been working in Waldorf education for ten years and gained much of her experience and training while working at the Bal Mandir Kindergarten. Chandra received her certification as a Waldorf kindergarten teacher in 2001. In July 2005 she graduated from the 3 year Early Childhood teacher training program at Emerson College in England. Chandra returned to Nepal and re-established her kindergarten group at Tashi Waldorf School. She leads the school’s kindergarten faculty in in-house teacher training, and the school community in study group.

DurgaDurga Dahal first experienced Waldorf education at the Bal Mandir Kindergarten and has led a kindergarten at Tashi Waldorf School for the past 6 years. Durga received her certification as a Waldorf kindergarten teacher in 2001. Her son Dipu attends the TWS kindergarten.

KripaKripa Manandhar joined Tashi Waldorf School as a kindergarten assistant in June 2000. She has led the nursery group at the school for the past 5 years. Kripa recently completed a 3 year part time Steiner Early Childhood training program in Bangkok, Thailand. Kripa’s son, Ruksong, is a graduate of TWS.

KamalaKamala Sapkota, joined Tashi Waldorf School in 2001 as a kindergarten trainee. She has led her own kindergarten group for the past 4 years and continues to participate in in-house teacher training.

RoshniRoshni Serchan joined Tashi Waldorf School in 2004 as an early childhood teacher trainee. She spent 6 months training in the nursery and now is training in the kindergarten. Roshni participates in in-house teacher training.



The Primary School Faculty
Lobsang
Lobsang Dolma joined the school in June 2002 as a teacher trainee. From 2003 until 2006 Lobsang led her first group of children through classes 1 to 3. In May 2006 Lobsang began Class 1 with her second group of children.

NimaNima Sherpa joined the school in May 2003 as the Class 2 teacher. She is now taking her second group of children through classes 1 to 3. Nima was a private school teacher before joining Tashi Waldorf School. Nima is participating in a 3 year part time Steiner Primary teacher training course being held in Bangkok, Thailand.

NirmalaNirmala Gurung joined the school in summer 2003 as a teacher trainee participating in in-house training. In May 2004, she began leading a class of her own. Her first group of children will graduate from the school in March 2007.

DolmaDolma Chonzom joined the school in 2004 as a Tibetan Language and Games teacher. Dolma has now expanded her role at the school to work with the special needs children. Dolma participates in in-house teacher training and she receives one-on-one training from foreign and local special needs specialists.

Aruna

Aruna Rai joined TWS in summer, 2006, as a class teacher trainee. She is participating in in-house teacher training with Lobsang, Nima and Nirmala.



The Administrative Staff

EvaEva Bhujel began at Tashi Waldorf School in 2001 as a volunteer helping in the school’s office. Within six months she became the School’s Administrator where she has excelled in keeping the school organized and running smoothly. Eva is also the children’s librarian. In May 2006 Eva became the Principal of Tashi Waldorf School.

RachelRachel Amtzis joined the school as its Fundraiser in May 2006. Rachel is from the US but grew up in Kathmandu, Nepal and attended international schools there. Rachel has now returned to live and work in Kathmandu after being away for several years studying and working in the US and Japan.

RajendraRajendra Syangden joined Tashi Waldorf School in May 2006 as Business Administrator. Rajendra has 23 years of experience as Finance and Administrative Officer with the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV), a Dutch INGO with offices in 29 countries. Previously, Rajendra worked for 5 years as a clerk in the Indian Army.

The Support Staff
Yam
Yam and Monita Rai are the parents of two of the school’s students, Sunita and Sushma. Yam and Monita have been the school’s caretakers since the school began in 2000. Monita is one of the school’s cooks, and Yam accompanies the children on the school bus each day. The family lives in a building on the school property.

Jamuna-Monita-SheemaJamuna Lama is the grandmother of Dipa, a graduate of TWS. Jamuna and Monita cook delicious nutritious morning snacks and lunches for over 135 children and adults every day.

Sheema Thapa joined the school in May 2006 as a kitchen helper and cleaner. Sheema’s daughter Kripa attends kindergarten at TWS.

KanchhiKanchhi Gautam is the grandmother of Kabita, a graduate of TWS. Kanchhi works as the school’s gardener. The gardens flourish abundantly under Kanchi’s care.

 

 

Ganga

 

Ganga Khanal joined TWS in November 2007, as a kindergarten
teacher’s assistant.

 

Manju

Manju Chaudhary joined TWS in summer, 2006, as a kindergarten assistant. Manju’s son and daughter also attend TWS.

 

RinzinRinzin Chomphel joined the school in May 2006 as a school assistant. Rinzin is an artist and was studying Thanka painting. He does painting with some of the special needs children, creates beautiful paintings for the school’s library and helps the teachers to create educational aids. He also helps to keep the library in order with the arrival of new books.
